Earth Day 2010

The Atomic Ducks Dive Club is proud to be supporting Earth Day 2010 by holding a river cleanup dive at Howard Amon Park in Richland. Each year the Atomic Ducks Dive Club schedules a one day underwater clean-up dive in the Columbia River in conjunction of National Earth Day activities and associated local events. This coming year we will be holding our function on April 10, 2010.

The club's objective in participating in this national event is to assist the local community in its ongoing efforts to maintain safe, clean and healthy environments for our families to enjoy. The Columbia River is a habitat for fresh water clams, mussels, salmon, bass, sturgeon, and other game fish, as well as being the home of the "Hanford Reach," which has been named a national monument. The history of the Columbia River is also rich in Native American Heritage. We are proud of its significance and we are honored to contribute our time and labor.

Our specific goals for this event are to clean selected sections of underwater shoreline of the Columbia River, in the Tri-Cities area. The underwater shoreline is scattered with beer bottles, tires, paper, aluminum cans, and other trash. The debris ends up in the river as a result of many water events or careless individuals illegally dumping unwanted items.
