2009 Polar Bear Dive

I have just returned from the polar bear dive. The weather was reasonably good with the temperatures in the 40s but the wind made it feel colder. We had a group of about 12 show up for the event, but only 4 were hearty enough to venture into the water for a dive. Our divers were Lee and Melina Piekarski, Ben Messinger, and Brian Baker. We had plenty of people willing to handle shore support and to help cook and eat the food. KNDU came and did a news story on the dive. After the dive we had plenty of chili and hot dogs as well as cookies, coffee, and cocoa.
Lee rented a space heater to help take the chill away. That along with the warmth of camaraderie made for a warm start to the new year. Happy New Year!
